Friday?
I had a couple of posts in the works for yesterday and today, but time has slipped away from me -- seems like the motto of my life right now! Anyway, on an indirectly related note [the whole where does the time go?], we went to Henry's school's art fair last night. It was beautiful -- all these precious little pieces of art hanging like colorful laundry drying in the sunshine.

To Help the Medicine Go Down
Clever Packaging, no? It's sugar! As in a spoonful of sugar...
Mary Poppins was one of my favorite movies as a kid. One rainy Saturday, my sisters and I sat in front of our giant wooden framed TV watching it, and the minute it was over, we'd rewind and watch again. It never got old. Still doesn't.

And You?
I'm fascinated by the book by Kate Bingaman-Burt called Obsessive Consumption: What Did You Buy Today?. One, hand drawn ink illustrations rock. Two, I love a good journal, especially with pictures. And three, I'm nosy, and I like knowing what other people have been up to.
Here's a little blurb from her website about it:
"I've been drawing something that I purchase every day since February 5, 2006. Obsessive Consumption represents a selection of these daily drawings. I draw objects that are rather ordinary: Coke cans, Post-it notes, toilet bowl cleaner-sundry items that a lot of consumers have a shared experience with; items that we interact with, but don't really think about. I love documenting the mundane and, in turn, putting a personal face on something that is mass-produced. I make work about personal consumerism, market economies, guilt, joy, excess, more guilt, gifts, celebration, repetition, and the community of these shared experiences."
And I see she made a stop at my hometown airport...
When we'd fly in from Boston, we'd make a mad dash to the Chick Fil A on Concourse B. Chicken never tasted so good.
I actually haven't bought anything today, but yesterday I bought Silly Bandz for the boys. Sea Creature ones. Isn't it funny how these things catch on at schools? Reminds me of the black rubber bracelets I used to link together a la Ricky Schroeder in Silver Spoons.
How about you?

Passport Photos
We took Baby Girl to get her passport picture today. It was an experience!
She did okay, only getting frustrated after about the 2oth time we tried to get a good shot.
It'll be pretty cute to see her little passport when it comes!

Inspired By [Sun + Surf]
I've been working away on holiday card designs, and I can trick myself into thinking it's that time of year by playing Christmas songs for only so long before I step outside -- it's 90 degrees here! And then my mind drifts from snowflakes and reindeer to being barefoot on the beach, long baths after a day in the sun, lounging around playing cards all afternoon on the deck with the sound of waves crashing in the background...would you like to join me?

Out in the Open
Open shelving. Scares. Me. But I love it when it isn't in my kitchen! And I love seeing how other people manage to pull it off so well. Do you have open shelves in your kitchen? If not, could you?

The Fromagerie
We have an excellent wine + cheese shop up the road, but they need to take a cue from this fromagerie -- their packaging is outstanding. How cute is that goat? I'd shop there just to get the labels. And I'd want to work there just so I could fill in the labels. And package everything up. And sample the cheese.

Inspired By [Storage]
A couple of months ago, I saw a feature in the New York Times Magazine on Diane Keaton. She took a photo of bins "because she loves storage - the very idea of it." I just so happen to agree, and loved the way that was phrased. Shelves, bins, closets, cabinets, containers -- what's not to love? And thus, my ode to storage -- because sometimes things don't have to be explained, simply enjoyed. Enjoy!

Letters and Things
My first week of letter writing has been great! I'm so glad I wrote about it here because it really makes me stick to it knowing that I have put it out there. I also made myself some new address labels, so that has helped keep me excited [our address is removed for obvious reasons, but you can get the idea!].
How are the rest of my fellow writers doing? Has it been good/bad/awesome/annoying/challenging/therapeutic/other?
On a side note, Henry came home with the most amazing thing [to me, anyway] this week -- a book he had written and illustrated called "My Family." All you other boy moms out there may be able to sympathize with me on this [and you mothers of girls who don't offer up much information], but I have no idea what he works on at school. I'm the mom at parent's night on the edge of my seat, listening to every word the teachers are saying with the hope of gleaning something - anything - about what he does at school. So when he comes home with a book like this, I almost start crying. I love it -- his precious little illustrations, his words [the words were typed out, but the original writing was stapled into the back]. This is definitely one of those things that I will treasure forever. One of my favorite parts? How he pictured Maggie being held in "the black thing." [aka The Baby Bjorn].
He also showed up one day with his Science Fair project poster. Um, I didn't even know that he had something in the Science Fair! He was so proud of his green ribbon. As he put it "Look at my ribbon! Everyone got one!" Love it.
We went to Spencer's Spring Music Performance this morning. There are few things more precious to watch than a bunch of preschoolers singing with motions.
That's all from here for now -- have a fantastic weekend, and Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!

Heart Love Note
I stumbled upon this creative tutorial the other day on Eat/Drink/Chic, and thought I'd share. It reminded me a little of the cootie catchers. I love seeing what can be created and intimated through one little sheet of paper. Isn't paper magical?
P.S. - How's the letter writing going??!

Children's Rooms
Have you heard of the series of books on children's rooms by Jeu de Paumes? The books focus on real rooms and nurseries in different cities, and the most recent edition just happens to be "Copenhagen." I'm so curious!
